Bhutan: A Visual Odyssey Across the Last Himalayan Kingdom is perhaps the ultimate coffee table book, except for the fact that it would crush most coffee tables. It is the world’s largest published book and is over five by seven feet and 133 pounds.
The book is full of pictures of Bhutan, the last intact Himalayan kingdom. The book was created by having teams from MIT and Friendly Planet take over 40,000 photographs on four expeditions across the country.
This is perhaps one of the only books in the world where the portraits of people are actually life-size. Huge panorama shots capture mountains and ancient architecture.
A limited edition of 500 copies are available. The $10,000 price is a donation to Friendly Planet. Each book takes several months to produce. Each copy is built individually for the recipient, is numbered, and can be personalized.
