Nothing makes us more curious than a secret project of massively lush proportions. The Platinum a huge yacht being built in a covered floating dry dock in the Middle East shown here, is being kept temptingly under wraps. The sleek 525 foot beauty, also known as Golden Star, will have its own submarine, a helipad, a hangar for small aircraft, and garages for jet-skis and four-wheel-drive vehicles, which can be taken ashore on special landing craft.
The ship will also have a screening room, squash court, a complete gym, swimming pool, spa and enough room for 24 guests to live in luxury. The megayacht is rumored to cost more than $300 million and is being built for Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. The yacht was originally commissioned in 1996 by Prince Jefri Bolkiah, the younger brother of the Sultan of Brunei but when the prince ran into financial trouble the project was tabled until 2001, when Sheik Mohammed took over.
Pictures of the model as well as lots of speculation are available on Yachtspotter. When it is finally launched some time next year, the yacht will easily overtake the current megayacht champ, Larry Ellison’s Rising Sun.
